Most podcasters first hear about ElevenLabs as "the AI voice tool," and assume it's only useful if you want a robot to host your show. In practice, it's far more useful as a toolkit around a human-hosted podcast: a polished intro, a clean ad read, a fixed mistake you'd otherwise have to re-record, a noisy interview rescued, a transcript, or a Spanish version of your best episode.

This guide covers the podcast workflows where ElevenLabs genuinely helps, what each one costs in credits, and which plan makes sense.

All credit costs and prices were checked on the official ElevenLabs pricing page on October 21, 2026. Prices exclude taxes and change from time to time.

What ElevenLabs can do for a podcast

Job ElevenLabs feature Approx. credit cost
Intro, outro, ad reads, narration Text to Speech ~1 credit per character
Fix flubbed lines in your own voice Voice cloning + Text to Speech ~1 credit per character
Clean noisy audio Voice Isolator ~1,000 credits per minute
Show notes and transcripts Speech to Text ~330 credits per minute
Jingles and beds Eleven Music ~900 credits per minute
Transitions and stingers Sound Effects ~200 credits per generation
Translated episodes Dubbing 2,000–10,000 credits per minute
Long scripted episodes Studio projects Text to Speech credits

All features draw from one shared monthly credit pool, so using more of one leaves less for the rest.

1. Intros, outros and ad reads

The quickest win. A professional-sounding intro voice gives a small show a polished feel, and ad reads can be produced in minutes when a sponsor sends copy.

A typical 30-second intro is around 75 words, roughly 450 characters, so a few hundred credits including retakes. Even the Starter plan covers dozens of intros and ad reads a month.

Tips:

  • Pick one stock voice from the voice library and stick with it so your show has a consistent sound.
  • Write the intro the way you'd say it, with short sentences and natural punctuation.
  • Generate two or three takes and choose the best; ElevenLabs shows before generating whether a regeneration is free.

2. Fix mistakes in your own voice

This is where a voice clone pays for itself. You recorded a great 40-minute episode but misspoke a statistic or a guest's name. Instead of re-recording, you type the corrected sentence and generate it in your cloned voice, then drop it into your edit.

  • Instant Voice Cloning is included from Starter. It's good for short patches.
  • Professional Voice Cloning is included from Creator, and it's much closer to your real voice, which matters when the patch sits right next to your real recording.

For best results, train the clone on audio recorded with the same mic and room as your podcast. Our step-by-step guide to cloning your voice with ElevenLabs covers recording and verification.

3. Narrated and scripted episodes

Solo, scripted formats work very well with AI voice: news roundups, explainers, daily briefings, fiction podcasts and narrated newsletters. ElevenLabs' Studio lets you organize a long script into chapters and regenerate single paragraphs, which is much easier than managing hundreds of clips. Free includes 3 Studio projects and Starter 20, per the pricing page.

Credit math: speech averages roughly 150 words per minute, about 900 characters. So:

  • 10-minute episode ≈ 9,000 credits
  • 30-minute episode ≈ 27,000 credits
  • Add 10–20% for retakes

A weekly 30-minute scripted show needs around 120k–130k credits a month, which lines up with the Creator plan's 121k credits (with rollover of unused credits for up to two months on paid plans).

Fully AI-voiced conversational "co-host" formats are possible, but listeners are quick to notice canned banter. Scripted solo formats usually sound more natural.

4. Rescue noisy recordings with Voice Isolator

Remote interviews often come with a fan, traffic or a bad laptop mic. Voice Isolator separates the voice from background noise. At about 1,000 credits per minute, cleaning a full 45-minute episode costs around 45,000 credits, so it's most cost-effective on the problem segments only, such as a guest's track rather than the whole mix.

5. Transcripts and show notes

Transcripts help accessibility and give you text to turn into show notes, blog posts and social clips. ElevenLabs' Speech to Text costs about 330 credits per minute, so a 45-minute episode is roughly 15,000 credits. Feed the transcript into your favorite writing workflow to draft show notes and timestamps.

6. Translate your best episodes

If your show has an international audience, dubbing can produce versions of an episode in other languages while aiming to keep the speakers' voices. It's credit-heavy: about 3,000 credits per minute for automatic dubbing without a watermark and up to 10,000 per minute in Dubbing Studio without a watermark. Reserve it for evergreen episodes. We cover the workflow in detail in ElevenLabs dubbing for YouTube, and it applies to audio-only shows too.

7. Music beds and sound effects

Eleven Music (about 900 credits per minute) and Sound Effects (about 200 credits per generation) can produce a simple theme, transition stingers or ambience. Starter includes music commercial use per the pricing page. For a long-running show, many podcasters still prefer a licensed or custom theme for a distinctive sound.

Which plan fits your podcast?

Plan Price / month Credits Good for
Free $0 10,000 Testing only (non-commercial, attribution required)

Our recommendation

For most podcasters, Creator is the sweet spot: enough credits for intros, ads, transcripts and fixes, plus a Professional clone of your own voice, which is the feature that saves the most editing time. Start on Starter if you only need intros and ad reads.

Frequently asked questions

Is ElevenLabs good for podcasts?

+

Yes, for specific jobs: generating intros, outros and ad reads, narrating solo or scripted episodes, fixing flubbed lines with a clone of your own voice, cleaning noisy recordings with Voice Isolator, transcribing episodes and translating them. It won't replace a natural unscripted conversation between real hosts.

How much does ElevenLabs cost for a podcast?

+

It depends on what you use. Per the ElevenLabs pricing page (checked October 21, 2026), text to speech is about 1 credit per character, Speech to Text about 330 credits per minute, Voice Isolator about 1,000 credits per minute and dubbing 2,000–10,000 credits per minute. Plans range from Starter ($6, 30k credits) to Creator ($22, 121k) and Pro ($99, 600k).

Can I use ElevenLabs audio in a monetized podcast?

+

Only audio generated on a paid plan. All paid plans include a commercial license; the Free plan is non-commercial and requires attribution.

Can ElevenLabs remove background noise from my podcast?

+

Yes. Voice Isolator separates speech from background noise and costs about 1,000 credits per minute of audio, according to ElevenLabs' pricing page. For a 45-minute episode that's around 45,000 credits, so it's best used on the problem sections rather than whole episodes.
